What is National Power Cooperative?

The Robert P. Mone Plant

The Robert P. Mone Station

A major step was taken in 2000 to ensure the member-consumers of Ohio's electric cooperatives continue to have access to economical and reliable electric power. That's when National Power Cooperative, Inc. (NPC) was formed.

Wholly owned by Ohio Rural Electric Cooperatives, Inc. (OREC), NPC entered into agreements with American Electric Power (AEP) under which AEP designed, built, operates and maintains the Robert P. Mone Station, a nominal 510-megawatt peaking power plant featuring three combustion turbines. Named after OREC and Buckeye Power, Inc.'s longtime legal counsel, the plant is owned by NPC.

Ground was broken for construction of the new plant May 16, 2001 near Convoy, OH in Van Wert County. The plant began operations in 2002.
