The statewide association for Ohio's 24 electric cooperatives, Ohio Rural Electric Cooperatives, Inc., (OREC) is headquartered at 6677 Busch Blvd., Columbus, Ohio, and serves the local cooperatives in many ways.
OREC produces Ohio's largest-circulation monthly rural magazine, Country Living, which serves to inform and educate Ohio's electric cooperative consumers about energy-related issues; represents the cooperatives before the United States Congress and the Ohio General Assembly; conducts an extensive safety and loss control program; coordinates an extensive education and training program for cooperative employees and directors; coordinates an extensive education and training program for cooperative employees and directors, and engages in a public affairs outreach through memberships in various associations and extensive youth outreach such a statewide scholarship contest for high school seniors and an annual Youth Tour to Washington, D.C. for outstanding rural youth.
Members of the state association are major consumers of United Utility Supply, a joint manufacturing and sales cooperative with the Kentucky Association of Electric Cooperatives in Louisville, Kentucky. Additionally, the managers' association of Ohio's member-owned systems, line supervisors, member services representatives, accountants and many others, both inside the cooperative movement and related groups as well, hold meetings coordinated by the state association.
