Editor’s Note – For those who haven’t followed the latest example of media malfeasance, comedian Mike Daisey was caught in a lie – several, in fact – in a purported expose’ broadcast on This American Life, a program carried by public radio stations. It resulted in international furor and retraction of the story. But in this essay, the writer defends not Daisey, but the reason he made up a story and channels the lesson to media coverage of climate change.
