Two members of the board of trustees of the Frontier Power Company were re-elected during the cooperative’s 77th annual meeting of members Friday, July 26, at River View High School auditorium. Returned to their seats on the board were Larry Blair of Lafayette Township and Ann Gano-McCleary of York Township.
Blair is currently the vice president of Frontier Power. He has completed the Credentialed Cooperative Director program and the Board Leadership Certification through the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association.
Gano-McCleary has served on the Frontier Power board since July of 2007 and is a certified public accountant and owner of Keeping Tabs, Inc. She also has completed the Credentialed Cooperative Director program.
In his report to members, board president Robert Wise said Frontier Power strives to maintain quality service to keep the cooperative competitive.
“Programs that make this possible include aggressive right-of-way clearing, an automated meter-reading system, radio controls on water heaters and controls on air conditioners to help with load management, maintenance and inspection of lines and substations, and a long-range plan to continue replacing 20 miles of line per year,” Wise said.
General Manager Steve Nelson introduced the cooperative’s employees and shared information about the cooperative. Originally founded in 1936, Frontier Power has 38 employees, 10 miles of transmission line and 1,541 miles of electric distribution lines, Nelson said. The cooperative also rebuilt 22 miles of distribution line in the past year and paid back $438,000 in capital credits.
Nelson encouraged members to visit www.frontier-power.com during outages for the most up-to-date information and explained how members can use the website to pay their bills on line.
He also talked with members about the Frontier Community Connection Fund, which awarded $10,525 in grants in the previous year to help local groups.
More than 900 cooperative members and guests attended the meeting.
